Death's Summon To R. Crawford

Worn Out by Age He Expires Without Pain at Home of His Daughter

R. Crawford, an old resident of Lamar county, who was eighty years of age, died at 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. W. Sheffield, on South Seventeenth street. The attending physician stated that his death was due to old age. He had been in feeble health a long time, but was not afflicted with any disease. He was just worn out.

He was born October 27, 1842 in Pike county, Ga., and came to Texas when he was ten years old with his parents, who located at Beckville, Panola county. At the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted in the Confederate army with General Walker's division and served throughout the struggle as a courageous soldier.

With the exception of the time he served in the army and until he became too old to lead an active life, he followed farming as an occupation all of his life. From Panola county he moved to Cooke county, and from there to Lamar county. He lived in Lamar county about forty years and lived all of that time in the same community near Chicota.

He is survived by two sons, R. A. Crawford and J. A. Crawford, both of whom live at Chicota, and three daughters, Mrs. A. W. Sheffield and Mrs. M. O. Bozeman of Paris and Mrs. Lizzie Haynes of Chicota. He leaves a large number of grandchildren and a brother, Jas A. Crawford of Beckville.

He was a lifelong member of the Methodist church.

The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the residence of A. W. Sheffield South Seventeenth street and will be conducted by Revs. P. B. Wells and W.
D. Mountcastle. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and interment will be in Evergreen.
