Ruth LaRee Fredrick passed from this life on Sunday, April 26, 2015, succumbing to the lung ailments that she fought against for so long.

Born January 14, 1940 to Henry Ernest Erickson and Nina B. Bagley Erickson in Lewisville, Idaho, she was the sixth and last daughter to join the family.

The family moved to Eastern Washington when Ruth was a toddler, where she spent her youth. One final move brought her and her parents alone to Brigham City, where Ruth graduated from Box Elder High School.

Having won a state award in short hand, she was recruited by Thiokol Chemical as an Executive Secretary. There, she gained invaluable experience until she began her studies at Brigham Young University and then the Church College of Hawaii (BYU Hawaii). Thus began her love affair with the Islands.

After a brief marriage, she found herself single with a young son, Blane Scott, living with family in Seattle. There, she was introduced to a tall sailor by mutual friends.

As Robert Fredrick's ship readied for its maiden voyage, they quickly realized they had started something life-changing. They were married on May 1, 1964 and prepared for the move to Honolulu, where "Fred" was stationed.

Almost ten months later, Alison Christine joined the family. She spent much time alone as Robert was away at sea with occasional visits from her mother or other family. Once, Ruth and Fred met in Tokyo when he had leave.

After the Navy, the family settled in Seattle, where Robert attended the University of Washington, and Ruth worked on campus as an Administrative Assistant. Once graduated and working, Stephanie Laree completed the family.

Career advancement brought the family to Salt Lake City in January of 1975 to the last home Ruth would have.

Ruth is survived by two sisters, Wanitta Anderson and Gladys Dressler; her three children and their spouses, Blane Scott and Joyce Fredrick, Alison Christine and Jeff Peterson, and Stephanie LaRee Brown; seven grandsons and six granddaughters, Jason and Melissa, Megan, Kyle and Mika, Emma, Nathan and Morgan, Abigail Fredrick, Kirsten, Rob and Eric Peterson, John Barrett, and Austin, Erin and Emily Brown; and five great-grandchildren, Braden, Zachary, and Baby Fredrick, Eden and Parker Fredrick, and Archimedes Fredrick.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, South Cottonwood Chevy Chase Ward Chapel, 5235 South Wesley Road (1125 East). A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services.
Burial will be in the Murray City Cemetery, 5490 South Vine Street (730 East).
