Rev. Roosevelt Dixie Sr., entered into Eternity on Sunday, April 26, 2015.
He was born on March 23, 1928, in Ensley, Ala. He attended Smart Elementary and
Central High School in Fort Wayne.
On Sept. 30, 1950, he married Joyce Lee White. They were married for over 61 years.
Reverend Dixie served as Associate Pastor and in various other capacities in the
church until his death. He retired from International Harvester after 43 years of
service and later worked and retired from the Transportation Department of Fort
Wayne Community Schools after 23 years. In his Glory days of boxing, he held the
Indiana State title of the Golden Gloves Boxing Champion for the following years:
1949, 1950 and 1953. He also loved to hunt, fish and was a master gardener.
Surviving are four daughters, LaTanya Hunt-Haralson, Lorretta Dansby, Lorna Dixie
Thomas, and Lisa (Byron) Banks; one sister, Esther Saunders; 13 grandchildren; seven
great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Lee Dixie; son, Roosevelt Jr.; parents
William H. and Willa Lee Dixie; sisters, Johnnie Mae Goldsby, Leona Median, Betty J.
Miles, and Emma Moore; and one grandchild, Lakia Dixie.
