Major League Baseball Player. He played in left field for thirteen seasons with the Philadelphia Athletics, Washington Senators and Boston Red Sox. He was part of a potent Athletics lineup that included Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx. He was named to the American League All-Star Team eight times during his career. He had 2,051 career hits with 1,283 RBIs and a .296 lifetime batting average, and was the ninth player to hit 250 home runs in the major leagues. He was inducted into the Washington State Sport Hall of Fame.
