Mr. Luber was a Union Civil War veteran. He enlisted in Company H, 47th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on June 15, 1861. He was wounded at the Battle of Atlanta July 22, 1864. He mustered out with his regiment on August 11, 1865.

The headstone was installed and dedicated by Col. Edward D. Baker Camp # 6 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
