FLORENCE – Melvin Thomas Casey Sr., 75, of North Douglas Street, died late Friday evening, April 5, 1996, in a Florence hospital after an illness.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the Northgate Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

Mr. Casey was born in Maple Park, Ill., a son of the late Seymour and Annie Richey Casey. We was a Mess Staff Sgt. for the Army, Navy, the Army Air Corps., and retired from the S.C. National Guard after 26 years of service. He retired in 1982 from the Sealtest division of Craft Foods Inc. He was a member and formerdeacon of the Northgate Baptist Church, a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, a member of the American Legion, Effingham Post No. 340 AFM.

Surviving are his wife, Edith Lucille Turner Casey of Florence; a son, Melvin T. "Tommy" Casey Jr., of Florence; six brothers, Leonard Casey of Clarksville, Ind., Irvin Casey of Scottsburg, Ind., Willard Casey of Jonesville, Ind., Amos Casey of Sellersburg, Ind., Charles R. Casey of Pekin, Ind., and Franklin Casey of Charleston, Ind.; three sisters, Virginia Linn of Columbus, Ind., Harriett Meyer of Jonesville, Ind., and Helen Spaulding of Salem, Ind.; three grandchildren, Sean Casey, Olivia Casey and Dan Meier.

Memorials may be made to the Northgate Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Building Fund, P.O. Box 4198, Florence, S.C.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. M.T. Casey Jr., 3748 Palmer Drive, Florence.
