BASSEN _ Shirley Marie 1935 - 2003 Shirley Marie (Dippel) Bassen, born July 26, 1935 in Calgary, took the hand of Jesus and stepped into heaven's grandeur December 31, 2003. She will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, Hank, of Calgary; daughter Sandra (Kevin) Sunde; and sons, Shane (Sandy), Brian (Sheila), Bobby (Holly), and Mark (Laura); nineteen grandchildren and her sister Pat (Al) Lang. A woman of strong Christian faith, Shirley is lovingly remembered as a Devoted Hockey Wife, Mother and Grandmother. Upon marrying Hank on August 31, 1956, she accompanied him throughout a professional hockey career that took them from Calgary to Seattle, Vancouver, Detroit (Red Wings) and Pittsburgh (Penguins). Passionate about the hockey careers of her sons and grandsons, Shirley was their number one fan and enjoyed skating with them on the Bowness Park lagoon. Active in the Christian Women's Club and Hockey Ministries International (HMI), donations in Shirley's memory can be made to HMI, Box 36, Beaconsfield, Quebec H9W 5T6.
