Gerald was born Aug. 29, 1924, at home on the farm. He was the son of Francis and Laura (née Kinsey) Nowels.
He never married. Gerald was a farmer all his life on the same farm that his father farmed his whole life as well. He milked Holstein cows for many years.
Gerald served on the Soil and Water Conservation Board and the Dairy Board. He liked to see good crops and livestock grow.
He was a big sports fan, following the West Holmes Knights, Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavs.
He was a loyal blood donor, having donated 23 gallons over his lifetime.
Gerald is survived by his sister, Reba Welstead of Nankin; six nieces and nephews; 12 great-nieces and nephews; and 11 great-great-nieces and nephews. He took a special interest in all of them, was much adored by all and will be sadly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jack Nowels; and his nephew Keith Nowels.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, at the Alexander Funeral Home in Millersburg, with Pastor Kathleen Walkerow officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Millersburg. Friends may call one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
