GEORGE HAUCK SR. Much Esteemed Resident Passes Away at Advanced Age
George Hauck sr., aged nearly 92 years, died at the home of his son, George Hauck jr., 705 W. Liberty street, at 12:15 a.m. today. He had been ill about eight weeks with the infirmities of age. Mr. Hauck was born in Alsace-Loraine, France, March 31, 1819. When he was nine years old he came to this country with his parents who settled at Churchville in the town of Verona. He afterward lived for many years in the town of Rome, locating on the Oswego road about four miles west of this city. Later he lived in Taberg, coming to this city to live about five years ago. He was a farmer by occupation, and also for many years dealt extensively in live stock, buying carloads of cattle and selling then to retailers in Rome and vicinity. He made a reputation for honesty and uprightness in all his dealing with his fellow men. He was one of the kindest and gentlest of men and all who knew him held him in high esteem. To those who knew his best his life will always remain a pleasant memory. In politics, Mr. Hauck was a Democrat, and was one of the first assessors elected after Rome became a city. For many years he had been a member of the German Lutheran Church at Churchville.
Mr. Hauck was married in 1843 to Miss Barbara Neice, who passed away about eighteen years ago. The children who survive are George Hauck jr. of this city and Marcus W. Hauck of Seattle, Wash.
