She lived at Black Hill, Penninghame in 1871. In 1881 she, at the age of 14, was living at the Grange Schoolhouse with her mother and older brother, William. William was the headmaster of the Grange school, his mother, Mary, was the housekeeper and Jane Murray was a scholar and monitress at the school. No doubt she intended to follow in the footsteps of her brother, and by 1891 she had become a teacher herself. She taught at the Abercorn Elementary School, and boarded with the Chapman family at No. 9 Cottage, Abercorn (close to the Abercorn kirk). While at Abercorn, she met her future husband, John Boss, who lived in nearby Midhope. Abercorn Elementery School was located on the A904, aproximately 600m south of Midhope and 750m west of Parkhead (Latitude/Longitude: 55.9797, -3.4886)
They married in 1894 and settled in the tiny village of Parkhead, situated close and to the south of Abercorn. All of her four children were born while they were living at Parkhead. However second child, Mary Meikle Boss, died aged 18 months from whooping cough. Jane Murray and her family moved to Ormiston Hall, East Lothian around 1909 or 1910. Unfortunately, she was to die soon after, from cancer of the colon, in 1911. Jane Murray is buried at Abercorn Cemetery along side her daughter, Mary, and mother, Mary.
