Jarrett Services Friday
Funeral services for William Jarrett, 53, of Switchback in McDowell County, who was killed Monday when a tractor-trailer pinned his 1972 jeep to a rock cliff near Elkhorn, will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Church of God in Maybeury with Rev. Gleason Dale officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at Bluewell.
Jarrett was killed instantly in the accident which occurred on Tank Hill near Elkhorn around 11:30 a.m. Monday morning. His son, a passenger in the vehicle, was listed in satisfactory condition at the Bluefield Community Hospital late Tuesday evening.
Jarrett was born in Oct. 29, 1924, at Eckman, a son of Mrs. Anna Marie Runyon Hairfield of Switchback and the late James William Jarrett. He was a coal miner and was employed at Gary No. 14, U.S. Steel. He was a member of UMWA Local 9534 of Gary and was a veteran of the U. S. Army and was preceded in death by three brothers.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Mrs. Ola Jean Hairfield Jarrett of the home; two sons, Timmy and Michael Jarrett of the home; two daughters, Miss Lois Jean Jarrett and Joyce Ann Jarrett, both of the home; brothers, Russell and Everett Jarrett, both of Maybeury, Henry Jarrett of Columbus, Ohio, Claude Jarrett of Owensboro, Ky., Johnny Jarrett of Inez, Ky., Roger Jarrett of Fostorie, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Vearl (Violet Marie) Brickey of Maybeury, and Mrs. Calin (Clara Ellen) Spraker of Austinville, Va.
Friends may call at the Bennett-Fanning Funeral home in Northfork Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
