Roy Arthur Bohnhoff, age 90, of rural Plymouth, passed away at his home on May 11, 2015. He was born January 4, 1925, the son of Albert and Meta (Kaeding) Bohnhoff. He was baptized January 24, 1925, in the Town of Lyndon by Pastor Martin Schmidt. He attended Winooski Grade School near their family dairy farm. Roy was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1942. Roy attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), graduating with a degree in electrical engineering. He later became a charter member of the MSOE Alumni Association, Fond du Lac Chapter. While attending college he worked at the Allen Bradley Company and was a member of the AAU basketball team that won the 1945 Wisconsin championship. On September 28, 1945 – the same day he received his MSOE degree - Roy was inducted into the US Army and served with the 13th Engineer Battalion. He headed construction projects and all administration duties for his company which was based in Seoul, Korea, where they worked on reconstruction following the Japanese occupation. By the time of his discharge in February, 1947, he had attained the rank of First Sergeant. In his later years he was a member of Ladwig-Zinkgraf American Legion Post 243. Following his military service, Roy established his own dairy farm, and played in the Lakeshore Softball League, Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League, Kettle-Moraine Baseball League, and Plymouth City Basketball League. Roy married Jean Manneck on September 4, 1954, at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in the Town of Lima. The couple purchased a farm in the Town of Lyndon in 1957. They continued to live and work on their farm for the next 60 years. Roy served on the board of the American Dairy Association of Wisconsin and on the board of the Sheboygan County Co-op in Waldo. He served on the Agriculture Advisory Committee for the Plymouth School District, and was a charter member of the Plymouth FFA Alumni Association. In 1986 he was honored by the State FFA Farmer Recognition Program. In 1999 he was honored as a 40 year member of the Holstein Association USA, Inc. While he went years without missing a single milking, Roy most enjoyed seasonal field work. He had an unparalleled love for animals. As an avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching Brewers, Packers, Badger football and Badger basketball games in his retirement. He was a gifted singer and harmonica player. Roy is survived by his wife, Jean of Plymouth; Six children: Mark (Sheri) Bohnhoff of Plymouth, David (Rhonda) Bohnhoff of Madison, Lori (Charlie) Robertson of Oklahoma City, OK, Julie (Scott) Overby of Plymouth, John Bohnhoff of Ely, MN, Amy (Mike) Jarvi of Trout Creek, MI; 16 Grandchildren: Joshua, Ruth, Rachel and Samuel Bohnhoff of Plymouth, Benjamin (Dawn) Bohnhoff of Cottage Grove, Christian Bohnhoff of Madison, Aaron (Angela) Bohnhoff of Hackettstown, NJ, Jonathan Robertson of El Paso, TX, Christopher (LaNeale) Robertson of Oklahoma City, OK, Matthew and Kathryrn Overby of Plymouth, Mollie Overby of Seattle, WA, Steven Prozinski of Little Falls, MN, Emily Jarvi of Sidney, NB, Jacob and Joseph Jarvi of Trout Creek, MI; Two great grandchildren: Holland and Oscar Robertson of Oklahoma City, OK; one Brother: Warren (Bonnie); Two sister-in-laws: Rebecca Bohnhoff and Mae Ott, and numerous nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, sister Pearl and Hugo Bilgo, brother Wilber and Jeanette Bohnhoff, sister Helen and Kenneth Reilly, and brother-in-law Gilbert Ott. Private Family services will be held according to Roy's wishes. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at the Winooski Cemetery, rural Plymouth. A memorial fund is being established in Roy’s name. The Suchon Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Plymouth is serving the family.
