Mrs. Amanda Nelson was born in Spruce Hill township on June 2, 1898, the daughter of Pehr and Maria Christenson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Spruce Hill Lutheran church.
She was united in marriage to Nels M. Nelson on June 7, 1922 by Rev. P. E. Ording. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson and their brother-in-law operated a store in Rose City until moving to Alexandria in 1937. Mrs. Nelson has been a resident of Alexandria for the past 32 years.
She passed away at Douglas County hospital on Aug. 9, 1969 at the age of 7 years. She is survived by one son, Marvin Nelson of Alexandria; two daughters: Inez (Mrs. Richard Esse) of Bloomington; Mae (Mrs. Curtis Jordan) of Palastine, Texas. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, four sisters and one brother: Anna (Mrs. Ray O'Brien) of Nelson; Etta (Mrs. Vernon Thomas) of Madras, Ore.; Jennie (Mrs. Michael Helland) of MaVille, N.D.; Clara (Mrs. Elmer Ahlberg) of Fresno, Calif.; Frans Christenson of Carlos. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Aug. 11, 1969 at Calvary Lutheran church in Alexandria, Rev. Wm. Bruggeman and Rev. Ervin Malm officiating. Interment was in Kinkead cemetery, Alexandria. Pallbearers were: Lowell Christianson, Roger Henningsgaard, Hjalmer Johnson, Russell Henningsgaard, Phillip Helland, Engvar Hanson.
