MAIDEN Ernest Williams Sr., 94 of Maiden, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton.

Born Nov. 6, 1921 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Klutz L. and Cora Campbell Williams.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Alda Blandena (Dean) Drum Williams; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Emmit and Mauzae Starr Williams, Glenn and Margie Bumgarner Williams and Aubrey and Betty Lee Williams; and one sister, Geneva Williams Bost.

He is survived by his children, Ernest Williams, Jr. and wife, Frankie and Betty Jean Holdsclaw and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Shanda Clark and husband, Dale, Donald Williams and wife, Patricia, Tammy Stallings and Chad Holdsclaw and wife, Shauna; great-grandchildren, Scott Korn and wife, Melissa, Letricia Hendrick and husband, Marcus, Heather Miller and husband, Jarrett, Spenser Clark and Stephen Clark; great-great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kaitlyn and Jacob Korn and Zakary Walker; brother-in-law, Vann Bost and sisters-in-law, Neoma Josey and Marilyn Gabriel; and also numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernest worked on the farm before serving his country in the U.S. Army for two and one half years during World War II with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the war he worked on the farm before going to work for Broyhill Furniture in 1952 where he worked for 20 years before retiring to open and operate Ernest Williams Grocery Store with his wife Dean for 16 years in the Balls Creek area. Ernest was a member of Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church, the American Legion Post 240 of Maiden, Catawba County Beagle Club and helped organized the Balls Creek Optimist Club. Ernest was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather but most of all he was willing to help his friends and neighbors. The family would like to thank all who helped care for him and for your visits during his latter years. This meant so much to him and your deeds will not be forgotten.

The Family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 24, at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church, 3273 Mt. Ruhama Church Road, Maiden, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and at other times they will be at the home of his son Ernest Williams, Jr. on the Rant Drum Road, Maiden. The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 25, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church in Maiden, with the Dr. Larry Burns and the Rev. Michael Staton officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 16 of Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church Building Fund in Maiden. Burke Mortuary in Maiden is serving the Williams Family.
