QUEEN ANNE
Our community was saddened on Friday evening last when it was learned that Mrs. Eliza Smith had passed into the "Great Beyond". Mrs. Smith had been in failing health for some time, but was ill only a few days prior to her death, which was caused by pleurisy, having been taken sick in church on Sunday last. Mrs. Smith, who was known to everyone as "Miss Lide", was a Christian of the highest type, having the confidence of all who knew her. Her life has been one of faithful service to her church and has been an example and inspiration to others that will live long in the memoriy of those who have known her. She belonged to all the church organizations, being an active member. She will be greatly missed, especially in her church, as she seemed a part of it, having sung in the choir for many years. The respect in which whe was held was shown on Monday when her relatives and friends gathered at the church to pay their last tribute to her. Her pastor, Rev. Richcreek, and Dr. J. A. Rood, a former pastor, of Royal Oak, made remarks that were both beautiful and true. Mrs. Smith was born in Caroline county 72 years ago, and was before her marriage a Miss Anderson, and is the widow of the late Eli Smith. She leaves three sons to mourn her loss, Winchester, Kenneth and Richard, with whom she made her home, also several sisters and brothers, Mr. Will Anderson, Mrs. Harry Clark, Mrs. Ella Redden, of Denton; Mrs. Laura Porter, of Burrsville; Mrs. Mollie Wilkinson, of Queen Anne; Mrs. F. F. Bennett and Mr. Robert Anderson, of Baltimore; Mrs. Bertie Pennington, of Washington, and Mrs. Charles Straughn, of Drexel Hill, Pa. The floral tributes were very many and beautiful. The pall-bearers were members of her Bible class and choir, E.S. Blades, B. B. Barton, Horace Morgan, S. H. Reynolds, Howard Sewell and Geo. B. Stewart. A loving mother, a devoted wife, and a good woman, " Faithful Unto Death", has fallen "Asleep in Jesus.
