Antonio "Tony" Abreu, Sr., 56, of Dartmouth, died unexpectedly, Sunday, January 1, 2006.

He was born in New Bedford, son of the late Jose and Maria Jose (Gouveia) Abreu, and had resided in Dartmouth for the past 30 years. A graduate of New Bedford High School he was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving his country in the United States Army. Mr. Abreu was a loving and caring person who devoted his life to helping others and enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved to spend time with his family and friends especially his grandsons.

He is survived by a son: Antonio Abreu, Jr. and his wife Sarah of Dartmouth; a brother: Leonard J. Abreu of New Bedford; seven sisters: Adelaide Abreu of New Bedford, M. Isidora Conway of New Bedford, Irene Souza of Dartmouth, Maria "Luciana" Langlois of Florida, Madeline Raucci of New York, Natalia Frechette of Tiverton, RI and Teresa Abreu of New York; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Filomena Soares and Balbina McKinley.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport, Friday, January 6, 2006 at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Mount Carmel Church, New Bedford at 10:30 A.M. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.
