George Kenneth Best
George Kenneth Best 1918 ~ 2006 George Kenneth Best passed away peacefully on October 9, 2006 after a long and valiant battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born on August 5, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Rupert Conk and Josephine Hardy Best. He served an honorable tour of duty during World War II, stationed in the Philippines and in the Army of Occupation in Japan. He married Doris Gene Hill on October 19, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple, and they had six children. George worked hard at whatever the endeavor, running a Spudnut shop in his youth or employment at Mountain Motors and the U.S. Post Office. He was an active member of the LDS Church who lived his beliefs as he served in many callings wherever he was asked. George was always willing to help others, gave freely of his time and talents, and was ready any time with a smile, joke or a tease. He was a great example of strength, steadfastness, kindness, sacrifice and commitment to God, family, and country. Survived by his wife Doris; children Patricia (Larry) Dennis of Sandy, Utah; Kenneth (Jennie) of Painesville, Ohio; Gloria (Brandt) Clark of Bedford, Wyoming; Leonard (Joanna) of Gilbert, Arizona; Barbara (Tom) Brimley of Sandy, Utah; and Cynthia of Salt Lake City, Utah; 21 grandchildren and four great-grand-children. Also survived by one brother Warren (Marion) Best of Salt Lake City, Utah; and one sister Virginia (Harrison) Benner of San Diego, California. Preceded in death by his parents, one sister, five brothers, and one granddaughter. We express sincere thanks to The Stratford Care Center and Inspiration Hospice for their kind and tender care at the end of George's life. His patience and good nature throughout the disease was a remarkable example to all around him. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. Friends may call Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in Larkin Sunset Gardens. Online condolences to www.larkinmortuary.com. His legacy will live on through his family. We love you, Dad.
