Mary Virginia was the sixth child out of thirteen. Probably she was born at her father's estate, "Walnut Grange," near Beltsville, Prince George's County, Maryland, which he left to her at his death.

Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church in Hyattsville, Prince George's County, Maryland was the scene of her wedding to Thomas Triplett Hunter on 2 May 1836. They were blessed with nine children, five sons and 4 daughters:

1. Frederick Chapman Hunter, M.D. (31 March 1837 - 5 May 1896) m. 12 Oct. 1869 to Eliza "Lalla" Simkins Lipscombe

2. Madeline Hunter (2 June 1839 - 6 April 1911) m. 14 April 1867 to James N. Edmondston

3. Thomas (Capt.) Triplett Hunter, Jr. (28 Feb. 1841 - 4 May 1867)

4. Julia Hunter (31 July 1842 - 14 Jan. 1903) m. 1 July 1861 to Franklin (Col.) Harwood

5. William Wallace Hunter (13 Sept. 1844 - 4 Feb. 1863)

6. John Carlyle Herbert Hunter (23 April 1847 - 30 May 1850)

7. Charles Hunter (7 Feb. 1850 - 24 Aug. 1901)

8. Minnie Hunter (12 June 1856 - 16 Dec. 1888)

9. Sarah (Sister, Episcopal Sisterhood) "Sallie" Virginia Hunter (1 May 1857 - 27 Feb. 1939)

On 13 Sept. 1857, she passed away at "Walnut Grange" when her last child was only four months old. Her grave is in her
parents' plot: Area R, lot 83. Nearby is the grave of her son, John Carlyle Herbert Hunter, who died from scarlet fever at age three.
