She was born July 14, 1949, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, to the late Clinton and Laura Gabbard Childers. She was a member of the Proctor Freewill Baptist Church in Proctor, Kentucky. Mrs. Watkins was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. She loved everyone and gave her love unconditionally. She loved music, the ocean and laughter.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Moberly (and Mark) of Richmond; one son, Randall Watkins (and Elizabeth) of Richmond; three sisters, Dorothy Brashears of Ohio, Margaret (Douglas) Childers and Carol Ann (Jerry) Hurt, both of Alabama; three brothers, Cecil (Sondra) Childers of Alabama, Wendell (Bertha) Childers and Ronald (Shirley) Childers, both of Beattyville, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Joshua Reginek, Kara Watkins, Emily Watkins, Leigh Moberly, Brian Pierson, and Brandon (Melissa) Pierson. Other survivors include a brother-in-law, Stanley Deaton of Beattyville, two sisters-in-law, Carmaletta Childers of Alabama and Kate Worsham of Irvine, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Betty Louise Weber.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Watkins; a sister, Thelma Deaton; four brothers, Hurley (Helen) Childers, Ishmael (Lillian) Childers, Joel Childers, Marvin Childers, and a brother-in-law, Bill Brashears.
Service for Mrs. Watkins will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Mike Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the Gabbard Family Cemetery in Lee County. Visitation will be from 6 – 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
