Cornelius Alonzo "Neal" Horner Sr was born on December 30, 1868 in Perry County, Tennessee, the son of John Valentine Horner (1824–1913) and Elizabeth Dillworth (Patterson) Horner (1827–1892).

Neal was married to Mary Elizabeth Green (1869-1941), the daughter of Robert Green and Sarah Elizabeth (Rice) Green.

A "commercial traveler," he was 61 years old and married when he died of angina pectoris on May 27, 1930 in Russellville, Kentucky.

Survivors included his widow Mary Elizabeth (Green) Horner, sons Horace Horner, Buford and C A Horner Jr of Nashville, and Claud S Horner of Greensboro, North Carolina, daughters Mrs J J McAdams of Shelbyville, Tennessee and Mrs E E Bryan in Nashville, brothers J C Horner of Nashville, J F Horner at Centerville, Tennessee, Robert Horner and William Horner of Waverly Tennessee and sisters Mrs W I Pace in Nashville, Mrs John Nicks and Mrs Bobie Pope at Luray, Tennessee.

Funeral Services were held on May 29th at Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
