Olive M. Meighen, 97, of Waynesburg, died Monday, March 29, 1999, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

She was born October 13, 1901, in Burdette, a daughter of D. Herman and Lucy Jones Murphy.

Mrs. Meighen was a lifelong resident of Waynesburg, where she was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church.

She was a member and past matron of Emerald Chapter 135, Order of the Eastern Star of Waynesburg, a member and past noble grand of Lady Greene Rebekah Lodge and was a past district deputy president.

Mrs. Meighen worked for eight years in the Greene County clerk of courts office, during which time her husband, James L. Meighen, held that office. She had also worked for many years at Edith's Dress Shop and later at the Fashion Shop, both in Waynesburg.

On October 4, 1920, she married James L. Meighen, who died May 30, 1971.

Surviving are a daughter, four grandchildren, 12 great-grandhildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters.

Deceased are a son, William E. Meighen; three sisters, Mary Nelson, Nelle Serbic and Margaret Snowden; and five brothers, Charles, Robert, William, Thomas and Dennis Murphy.
