Joan Campbell Chambers passed away on May 30, 2015 in her home surrounded by loving family. She was born on July 6, 1929, the fifth of eight children, to Harold Scott and Beatrice Farr Campbell in Ogden, Utah. Joan graduated from Weber High School in 1946. She lived all of her life in the Ogden area. She loved North Ogden so much.
Joan married Leland James Chambers in the Salt Lake Temple on June 16, 1950. She worked at Hill Field for a short time, and then became a fulltime homemaker shortly before their first child was born. Joan and Lee raised their family at 931 Tyler Avenue in Ogden. She made the home a mansion for her husband and children. All of the neighbor children seemed to know when she was cooking sweets and made themselves available to taste them. This she was happy to do, which allowed her to know where her children were and who they were playing with. She had great love for her family and could be found with Lee at her parents’ place each Sunday visiting with her brothers and sisters while all of the kids played with their cousins. In her later years, this home would become her own. She was able to move back to the place she loved so much.
Joan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. She served in many positions in her ward and stake. Along with her husband, she served two missions for the church. They were Spanish speaking missionaries in Laredo, Texas, and also in the Spanish branch in inner city Ogden. She deeply loved the members of these two areas. Whenever anyone came to visit them, they were made to feel welcome. She was a gracious hostess to whoever came, family or friends. She loved taking care of her yard and could be found working there with Lee often. Joan loved her children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They put a smile on her face faster than anything else.
Joan and Lee are the parents of Scott (Alene) Chambers, Joe (Jan) Chambers, Colleen (Stan) Fuller, 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her children; sisters: Marilyn (Bill) Chambers, Ruth Berrett; brother, Gaylen Campbell; sister-in-laws, Bar Dee Campbell and Shirley Chambers.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband Lee; granddaughter Olivia; brothers: Russel, Arthur, and Hugh; and sister, Fawn Rhees.
