She was born Aug. 1, 1908, in Cove, Ore., and was married to Col. Vernon Erkenbeck, U.S. Army, ret., in Los Angeles in 1928.
They came to San Diego in 1930 and lived for many years in the Muirlands area of La Jolla. For the past 11 years, they lived in La Jolla Alta North.
While Dr. Erkenbeck was serving with the Army Hospital Corps in The Philippines, she and her husband entertained such military leaders as Generals MacArthur, Eisenhower, Patton and Wainwright.
After her husband retired, in the late 1950s, to enter private practice in San Diego, she entertained at parties for those prominent in professional circles.
She painted in oils and watercolors and was a member of the San Diego Watercolor Society.
Mrs. Erkenbeck learned to play golf while in the Philippines and maintained her interest in the game. She was a member of Whispering Palms Golf Club.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Vernon Erkenbeck; sons, Dr. Richard Erkenbeck of Washington, D.C., and Jim Erkenbeck, one-time Grossmont College football coach and now assistant coach with the Philadelphia team in the U.S. Football League; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday in the chapel at El Camino Mortuary, with the Rev. Burt Smith of First Presbyterian Church, San Diego, officiating. Burial will follow in El Camino Memorial Park.
The family suggests donations to Genesee Cancer Center, Scripps Memorial Hospital, 9888 Genesee Ave., La Jolla.
