Ethel York Bryant, age 98, of Marion, passed away Friday, April 23, 2010 at her residence.
Mrs. Bryant was born in Wise Co., VA on March 25, 1912 and was a daughter of the late William Garfield York and Hettie Fields York. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother and a friend to many. She was known to be a hard worker.
Preceding Mrs. Bryant in death was her husband of 59 years, James Avery Bryant, a son, Arlen E. Bryant and a grandson, James Arlus Bryant. Five brothers, Cecil, Coy, George, Elmo and Lee York and three sisters, Elizabeth York, Ruth Franklin and Reva Shuttle also preceded her in death.
Left to cherish Mrs. Bryant's memory are two children, Evelyn Ethridge and Helen Jones, both of Marion; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Bryant of Abingdon, VA; a brother, Ralph York; a sister, Marie Odum; four grandsons, Jeff Ethridge and his wife Shelia, Greg Jones and his wife Wanda, Alvin Jones and his wife Carolyn and Gary Jones and his wife Brenda; nine great grandchildren, Corey and Chase Jones, Brian and Eric Jones, Chad and Brad Jones, Nathan Allen, Alicia Allen and Nolan Burgin; and five great great grandchildren, Skyllar Jones, Addison Jones, Sophie Jones, Isabella Allen and Kavan Tate.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Gary Greene officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Mountain View Cemetery in Bristol, VA.
