He was born on September 20, 1933 in Lumberton, NC, the son of the late Dewey Barnes and Lillie May Edwards Barnes. Also remembered are three brothers, Buck Barnes, Tommy Barnes and Clyde Barnes and a sister, Nancy Hayes, all of who preceded him in death.
Mr. Barnes retired as a millwright after twenty-five years with Estach chemical company. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Woodburn and Waccamaw Masonic Lodge #596.
Surviving is his wife Lillie Spivey Hannel Barnes; two daughters, Debbie Doty, and Vera Louella Almond and husband Eddie, all of Leland, NC; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Jimmy Barnes of Jacksonville, FL; and three sisters, Dorothy Britt and Edna Earl, both of Fairmont, NC, and Delzina Thompson of Charlotte, NC.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Andrews Mortuary Market Chapel.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 am Wednesday at Andrews Market Chapel with Pastor Arnold Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
