Residence Anson County NC;
Enlisted on 11/20/1863 at Camp Holmes, Raleigh, NC as a Private.
On 11/20/1863 he mustered into "K" Co. NC 43rd Infantry
He died of disease on 5/17/1864 at Hosp, Goldsboro, NC
(Pneumonia)

The following information submitted to me by John Field Pankow:
He was born James Martin Beachum, circa 1845, in Anson County, NC, the first son, and third of seven or eight children born to Isaiah S. Beachum (1812-1894) and Phereba O'Neal (1818-1888).
James Martin Beachum served in Co. K, "The Anson Independents," of the 43rd NC Regiment, CSA. Also serving in the regiment were five more of my 3rd great uncles: Joseph J. Beachum (c.1832/3-1865, died of mistreatment at Elmira Prison), James Thomas Beachum (1837-1907, wounded at Gettysburg, survived), William H. Beachum (c.1840-1862, died of pneumonia), Edmund Gray Taylor (c.1826-1870, wounded, never recovered, died after the war) and William Wilson Taylor (1840-1917, wounded, survived).
