Sophronia Ellen Beachum was a daughter of Isaiah S. Beachum (1812-1894) and Phereba O'Neal (1818-1888). Her paternal grandparents were Alexander Beachum and his wife Elizabeth Shelton, and her maternal grandparents were Kindred O'Neal and his wife Culia Hayles.

Sophronia married William Wilson Taylor (1840-1917, a son of William Taylor and Sarah McLendon) on Feb. 16, 1871, and they had ten children: Sarah Ellen Taylor (1872-1958, m. Robert Lee Anderson Kiker), James Wilson Taylor (1873-1958, m. Lou Vinnie Thomas), John David Taylor (1875-1964, m. Mary Jane Lougenia Kiker), Culia Ann Taylor (1877-1967, m. William Alexander Kiker), Stephen Alexander Taylor (1878-1962), Benjamin Franklin Taylor (1881-1967, m. Magnolia Walters), Mary Jane "Mamie" Taylor (1882-1921, m. Darling Faxton HIgh), Ida Alberta Taylor (1886-1968, m. Stacy Marvin Braswell), Thomas Taylor (1888-1890) and Samuel Jones Monroe Taylor (1889-1965, m. Dallie Virginia Mills Helms).

Sophronia was a noted midwife in the area, and delivered many Anson County babies. She was a double first cousin to Jeremiah Washington Beachum (1830-1910), their fathers being brothers, and their mothers being sisters. Jeremiah married Mary Jane Taylor (1836-1882) who was a sister to Sophronia's husband William Wilson Taylor. Sophronia died of cancer at the age of 87.
