James S. Watkins of Somerset, Kentucky, died after a short illness. He was 73 years old.

He was a farmer. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

He was survived by his wife, Mary Lena (Phelps) Watkins; his children, Reverend Edwin Watkins, Leon Watkins, and Eva Turner, all of Somerset, Kentucky, Delbert Watkins of Demont, Indiana, and Elva Godby of Eubank, Kentucky; his brother, Leonard Watkins of Alcalde; his sisters, Mande Davis of Prineville, Oregon and Nannie Greer of Harlan; 25 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Watkins and Canzeda (Gregory) Watkins.

Funeral services were held at White Lily Baptist Church with Brother Edmond VanHook and Brother Milford Hargis officiating. Pulaski Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
