NAPA - Dovelia (Dee) Brazzi died peacefully in Napa on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009. She was born in a small village called Pianello Lario on Lake Como in Italy to Constantine and Josefina Granzella on Jan. 16, 1918. She came to America through Ellis Island at an early age and moved to Napa, where she lived the remainder of her life.
Dee was a devoted and loving mother, a great Italian cook, an avid golfer, a world traveler and a prunepicker. She was generous to a fault, possessed the greatest smile and was always ready to go anywhere anytime.
She was a charter member of St. John's Catholic Church and a lifelong member of the Sons of Italy and the Italian Catholic Federation. She was also a member of various local garden and golf clubs. One of her greatest enjoyments was working with her antique family at Red Hen Antiques.
Dee was predeceased by her husband, Louie, and her sister, Anita Casagranda, and also by her dear nephew, Don Grimoldi and niece Barbara Casagranda Ulibarri. She is survived by her sister, Bruna Grimoldi; son Rich Brazzi and his partner, Bob Corell; her daughter, Judy Salzberg and her husband, Dr. Harvey Salzberg; and by her grandchildren, Dr. Marc Siemens and his wife Jacquie; her granddaughter, Kelly Hatzenbuhler and her husband, Mark; her loving niece, Dr. Constance Casagranda Williams; her step-grandsons Jonathan, Brandon and Michael Salzberg; and her cherished great-grandson, Braydon Hatzenbuhler, who always brought a smile to her face. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Italy and America, including cousin Annie Emmolo, Mary Cittoni, the Contessa Elena Bruni of Italy and her son, Marco.
The family would like to give special thanks to the loving care given Dee in her last days by Sharon Simpson of Elegant Guest Home, to the Hospice of Napa Valley and to the caring staff at Villa Del Rey.
Services will be held Friday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m., at Tulocay Chapel.
