She came to America with her parents when she was 18 years old working at various places until May 20th, 1884 when she was united in marriage to Baartinus M. Benson and they settled on a farm in Roscoe Township where she has since resided. Her husband died September 21st, 1932.
This union was blessed with eleven children, four of whom died in infancy. Those left to mourn her death are; (Bertha) Mrs. Albert Vanderwalker, (Clara) Mrs. Ludvik Shelstad, (Carrie) Mrs. Andrew Romo, (Selma) Mrs. Adolph Berg, (Hilda) Mrs. Louie Hofstad, Benj., at home, and (Ellen) Mrs. Carl Gronert, and one adopted daughter, (Josie) Mrs. P. D. Hegseth. She also leaves 42 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren, besides two sisters, Mrs. Ole Odeen, and Mrs. J. E. Miller, and one brother, John Hagre.
She was a woman of a quiet disposition. About 2 weeks ago she was taken ill with congestion of the lungs and was taken to St. Johns Hospital, Red Wing, where she died Tuesday, May 18th, at 3 o'clock in the morning, at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 19 days.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 21st, at the home at 1 o'clock and at 1:30 at Roscoe Center church.
Mrs Iver Berg sang two songs, one in Norwegian (sic) and one English. Burial was made at the church cemetery. Six of her grandsons acted as pallbearers, Benroy Roma, Bennett Berg, Adolph Ellefson, Orrin Hofstad, Palmer Shelstad, and Phillip Hegseth.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. J. E. Miller of Rochester, Mrs. Karl Korstad, Wells, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Westby, Austin, Mrs. Walter Andrist, Mantorville, Mrs. Ed. Miller, Mrs. Albert Miller and Mrs. Wm. Lewis, all of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Miles Lindskog, Rochester, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Colburn and Mrs. Ed. Colburn, Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Verne Lyke, Eyota and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bjugan of Moland.
