George “Tommie” Arendale, 69, of Cordova went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 17th after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Tommie was born in Owensboro, KY on September 16, 1945. He was a graduate of Delta State University with a degree in music education. After graduation, he became an accomplished band director with Hernando High School, serving the Hernando community for several years. In 1969, Tommie moved to Memphis and began his lifelong career as a music education sales representative.

He worked for Colie Stoltz Music until 1992. After the closure of Colie Stoltz, Tommie joined AMRO Music where he worked until his retirement in October 2014. Deeply devoted to his local community and music as a whole, Tommie also directed the choirs of the churches he attended for over 34 years.

Tommie leaves behind his beautiful wife Sharley Arendale; son Alan and his wife Melynn and their children Aubrey and Avery; son Eric and his wife Kristie and their children Sam and Sera; and daughter Sarah and her husband Doug and their son Wyatt. His extended family spans the countrywide and includes five brothers, two sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents, Edward Eugene Arendale and Mary Beatrice Manley, preceded him in death. The tears we shed are for the loss we feel in his passing, but his gain is glorious.

Services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery in Memphis. The viewing will be held Sunday, June 21st from 5-7pm. Funeral and burial services will be on Monday, June 22nd at 10am.

Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Methodist Hospice of Memphis.
