Born March 8, 1927 in Joplin, she was the daughter of the late Harrison Malone and Anna Belle Martin Malone and was a lifetime Joplin resident. Betty worked in retail music sales, loved nature, gardening, fishing, traveling, dogs and most of all spending time with her family. She was a Christian.

On June 5, 1957 she married William F. Pierson at Miami, OK. He preceded her in death on September 12, 2009. She was also preceded by three brothers, Raymond, Carl and Harold Malone; three sisters, Hazel Fannin, Colleen Shoemaker and Ilene Cole; an infant daughter, Martha Ann; and a grandson, Christopher Ward.

Betty Jean Malone Pierson, age 88, of Joplin, Mo., passed away peacefully at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family. Born March 8, 1927, in Joplin, she was the daughter of the late Harrison Malone and Anna Belle Martin Malone and was a lifetime Joplin resident. Betty worked in retail music sales, loved nature, gardening, fishing, traveling, dogs and most of all spending time with her family. She was a Christian. On June 5, 1957, she married William F. Pierson, at Miami, Okla. He preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 2009. Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Ward Dubry, of Joplin, Christine Smith and husband, Steve, of Webb City; her brother, Gene Malone and wife, Wanda, of Liberty, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Rusty Smith and wife, Vanessa, Jodi Mouton and husband, Paul, Kari Wilcox and husband, Jim, Margaret Prince and husband, Rusty, Sam Smith and wife, Katie, Chad Ward, Casey Ward Berges and husband, Jeff; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Red Door Barn, 9164 State Highway 43, in Webb City, with Scott Sprouse officiating. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10 a.m. Entombment will in Ozark Memorial Park Mausoleum. Family serving as pallbearers will be Steve Smith, Chad Ward, Jim Wilcox, Paul Mouton, Sam Smith and Dennis Hoagland. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
