Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount St. Francis Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m. The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
Sister Joyce ministered as a music teacher in the Iowa cities of Holy Cross, Pocahontas, Cascade, and Dubuque (Wahlert High School), as a DRE at Waterloo (St. John and St. Nicholas), as a liturgist at Middleton, Wis., (St. Benedict Retreat Center) and in music, liturgy and theology for the last 21 years in Epworth, Iowa (Divine Word College). She served as a trustee at Briar Cliff University for 10 years. She also directed the choir for the Stonehill Benefit Dinners from 1994 to 2004.
She was born on Feb. 13, 1940, in Vail, Iowa, daughter of Lloyd and Alice Brogan. She grew up in Sioux City, Iowa, and graduated from Heelan High School in 1957.
She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Briar Cliff University, a masters in music education degree from the University of Iowa, and a masters in liturgical studies degree at Catholic University of America.
She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on Sept. 3, 1959, and made her final profession of religious vows on Aug. 12, 1967.
Surviving are two brothers, Paul (Therese) and Bill (Dixie); two sisters, Dorothy (Vincent) Kramper and Jean Roberts; nieces and nephews; and her Franciscan Sisters, with whom she shared 45 years of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
