Dr. John Ellis Jr. passed from this life to be reunited with those he loved who went before him on Friday June 26, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Earlene, "Dot" Ellis and his parents, John and Marie Ellis. He leaves behind three daughters, Joni Ellis Bodie, Jill Ellis Hawkins, and Julie Ellis Conner as well as two grandsons, Jamey Ellis and John Ellis III and six great-grandchildren Ada Rae, Regan Marie, John Tyler, Miranda Lynn, James Jonathon Ellis and Justin Manning.

Dr. Ellis was born in Anniston, Alabama and grew up in Ohatchee Alabama. He attended Georgia Military Academy as a young man and then his education journey took him to the University of Alabama before he then chose his profession and attended Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport Iowa. After graduating from Palmer Chiropractic College Dr. Ellis then found himself in Griffin, Georgia where he began his practice on December 3, 1953. He joined the First United Methodist Church when he came to Griffin and after opening his practice, met and married his wife and then raised his children in Griffin as well. He went on to be a prominent and beloved Dr. who practiced for 39 years before retiring. He was a gifted Chiropractor who never turned anyone away that needed help even making house calls when need be.

While living in Griffin Georgia, Dr. Ellis was a member of the Country Club, the Elks Club, the Optimist Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the American Business Club, and the Downtown Council. He was also president of the Spalding County Library Board and a member of the Flint River Regional Library Board. He was the Chairman of the Spalding County Democratic Party for five years as well as the founding president of the Georgia Association of Democratic Chairs. He was the President of the Georgia Chiropractic Association for two terms and on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Chiropractic Association for two years and a member of the Georgia Chiropractic Board of Examiners.

Dr. Ellis retired from his practice, Ellis Chiropractic Clinic, in Griffin in 1992 and moved with his wife Dot to Saint Simons Island, a place that had been a part of their heart for many years. They built their dream home next to the beach where he resided until his death. Dr. Ellis' passion for architecture led him to get his Real Estate license and he sold real estate when he and his wife were not travelling abroad.

There will be a visitation and Celebration of Dr. Ellis' life Monday June 29 at Edo-Miller Funeral Home from 6-8 pm and there will be one Tuesday June 30 in Griffin, Ga. At Conner-Westbury Funeral Home from 6-8 pm as well. Dr. Ellis will then be laid to rest at the Oak Hill Mausoleum next to his wife and parents in Griffin on Wednesday morning July 1, 2015 at 10 am.
