Mr. Charles Tucker Saunders, Jr., 84, beloved husband of Mrs. Mary Clarke Saunders entered into rest on Wednesday April 2, 2008 at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at Damascus Baptist Church on Monday April 7, 2008 at 12:00 PM with the Rev. Joe Hester officiating. The body will lie in state from 11:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow the services in the Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Saunders was born in Richmond Virginia in 1923. He was married to his loving wife Mary for 65 wonderful years.
Mr. Saunders will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of Damascus Baptist Church and also the Friendship Sunday School Class. Mr. Saunders worked for 39 years with E.I. DuPont in Richmond, Virginia and Savannah River Plant in Aiken, South Carolina where he retired as the supervisor in the Electrical Instrument Department. He was a life member of the N.R.A., one of the founding members of the Leah Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Saunders enjoyed his retirement years at his lake and mountain homes but also was an avid hunter, fisherman, motorcyclist, and traveler.
In addition to his wife Mr. Saunders is survived by his son, Charles T. "Chuck" Saunders, III and his wife Carla of Aiken, his grandchildren, Charles T. "Chad" Saunders, IV, Clarke T. Saunders, and Chandler T. Saunders, his step-sister, Jackie Hargrave Loving and husband John of Richmond, Virginia, his sister-in-law, Blanche C. Winn of Richmond, Virginia, his brother-in-law, L. Dennis Clarke and his wife Martha also of Richmond, Virginia, and several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Saunders was preceded in death by his father, Charles T. Saunders, Sr., his mother, Grace Martin Saunders Hargrave, and also his step-father, Thomas H. Hargrave. Pallbearers will be: Charles T. Saunders, IV, Clarke T. Saunders, Chandler Saunders, David G. Harvey, Richard L. Little, Bill Morris, and Ray Stuart.
