EAST BIGGS, Apr. 23 Henry Hughes, 80, East Biggs district rancher, died suddenly from a heart attack during the noon hour Wednesday. Hughes, who had been working during the morning, entered his house for dinner and took a short rest before eating. When he got up to go to the table he was stricken.
Hughs was quite active for his age, having attended the Gridley auction and sales yard sale Tuesday. He came to California 40 years ago and lived in the East Biggs district for 22 years. He was born in Illinois, March 20 1862. Surviving him are his wife, Emma (Koehler) Hughes, four nieces and one nephew.
Final services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Block funeral home in Gridley.

GRIDLEY, Apr. 27. - Funeral services for Henry Hughs of East Biggs were held in the Block funeral home Thursday afternoon. Interment was made in the Gridley-Biggs cemetery. Rev. Donald Getty of the Biggs Community church officiated. Mrs. Kelly Brown was vocalist.
Casket bearers were Clyde Shepard, Albert Borcherd, William Betts, Emily Krause, L. O. Rice and Charles Sohnrey. - All articles, above, (note that surname spelling is both "Hughs" and "Hughes") were contributed by Your Sister in Christ - Dona (Carr) Mooring, Nov 5, 2020.
