Abram Long Hershey was the son of Susan Long and Jacob H. Hershey. He served during the Civil War in Co. G, 2nd Penna. Volunteer Cavalry, receiving a pension for his service. About 1869, he married Fannie K. Mellinger, youngest child of Martin Mellinger and Anna Kauffman of Manor Twp., Lancaster County, Penna. Of this union, seven children were born -- Annie, Minnie, Salem, Bertha, Edgar, Florence, and Abraham.
