CADILLAC -- Edwin M. Socall of Cadillac, formerly of Redford Township, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at his home. He was 83. Survivors include his wife, Joan; children, Ron (Bonnie), Pamela, Gerald and Edwin Jr.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Stacy, and grandson, Wayne. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan. Arrangements were by Peterson Funeral Home in Cadillac.

Born in Detroit Michigan November 8, 1916, he graduated from Mackenzie High School. He began working at "Mechanic's Laundry" in Detroit as a delivery/salesman of work uniforms to workers at the General Motors auto plants from 1933 until 1974.

He married Joan P O'Connor on the 9th of November 1940.

Ed (Slim as his co workers called him) served his country with the US Army from 15 Dec 1943 and was honorably discharged 2 Jan 1946 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. He attained the rank of Cpl, attached to 376 1st Quartermaster Truck Company serving in the campaign for the Ryukyu (Okinawa) Islands in Pacific Theater. Awards included Good Conduct Medal and 4 overseas service bars.

After he returned from the Army, he bought a home in Redford Township, Wayne County, MI, where he raised Ron, Pam, Jerry, and Edwin Jr.

After retirement in 1974, he sold his home in 1976 and relocated to Cadillac, Wexford County, Michigan. He enjoyed sports, playing cards (especially with his friends at the Griff Inn), and enjoyed traveling by car to see the sights of Michigan.

He was 6'3 200lbs, had blue eyes, Brown straight hair.
