The South Parish "Burying-yard", as it is named in the earliest parish records, was laid out about the time of the organization of the church. The first person buried here was Robert Russell. Robert emigrated to America about 1640 and settled in Andover, Essex, where he acquired a considerable estate called, "Scotland Yard".
