"(Patriotic Statesman Marker - 'Revolutionary Statesman Henry Steele, 1718-1782' - placed by American Liberty Chapter, D.A.R.) (His remains and tombstone were removed from Weston). 'He was the first member of the Steele family in Dorchester County, came from White Haven, Cumberland Co., England, in 1740, and settled near Vienna. He held many offices in the Province of Maryland; Justice in 1759, Burgess 1763-1770, and represented Dorchester Co. at the Convention at Annapolis in 1774. Member of the General Assembly in 1777.'

Henry was born in White Haven, Cumberland County, England in the year 1720. His great great grandson, Dr Guy Steele moved his remains from Weston near Vienna to his present location in the Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery in Cambridge. He married Sarah Billings, the daughter of James Billings of Oxford, Talbot County. Mr Steele left four sons, James, Isaac, Harry and Peter. Harry and Peter died before reaching manhood. James inherited much of Henry's estate being the eldest son and by the dictates of primo geniture.
