Alvina May Schmidt 1929-2012. Alvina May Schmidt died peacefully on December 16, 2012 with her family by her side. Alvina was born February 5, 1929 in Copeland, Kansas to Jonas and Anna Jantz. She moved to Dodge City, Kansas where she met Harry and they married in Wichita, Kansas on April 9, 1955. They moved to Syracuse, Kansas in 1961 where they owned and operated Harry's Texaco. She enjoyed family and friends and were founding members of the Lighthouse Tabernacle. In 1979, they moved to Prescott, Arizona where Alvina and Harry owned and operated Sparkletts Bottled Waters for 28 years. They sold in October of 2007 and eventually retired to Jacksonville, Oregon in 2011.
While in Kansas they started taking in foster kids and they had taken in three. After moving to Arizona they opened their home and they had over 400 kids come through their door from 1979-1985.
After semi retiring from Sparkletts her passion for sewing continued as she had many sewing projects that she would make for family and friends. After moving to Oregon, Alvina and her daughter-in-law Cindy were making 20-30 quilts for the women's shelters and homeless. She knew time was running out and she had to get all of them done b Christmas. She would always say, "It's not time for me to go, I have things to do." Alvina loved to play games with her kids, grandchildren and other family members. She was always cheerful and the life of the party.
Alvina is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Henry, Ervin, Alvin, William, Walter and Johnnie. Also by three sisters, Ella Mae Koehen, Goldie Mae and Mable Mae. she is survived by 1 sister; her husband of 57 years, Harry; 1 daughter and 2 sons. She also had one special foster child that she took in.
