MONTEZUMA - Johnnie Jantz, 87, died March 4, 2012 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. He was born on February 8, 1925 in Gray County, the son of Jonas and Anna (Schmidt) Jantz

Johnnie was born on the family farm and attended Sunnyside Country School. On September 14, 1954, he married Phyllis Hall at Fort Dodge. She preceded him in death on October 4, 1994. After their marriage, the couple moved to Montezuma. Johnnie farmed and also worked at Unruh Foster for 13 years as a mechanic before going into farming full time. He enjoyed bowling and having coffee with his many friends around town. Johnnie loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church and the Moose Lodge. Johnnie served on the USD 371 Board of Education for eight years and as a volunteer fire fighter.

Johnnie is survived by two sons, Dean Jantz and wife Janie of Montezuma and Bruce Jantz and wife Wendy of Frisco, Texas; four grandchildren, Cassandra Zweygardt and husband Andy of Montezuma, Savannah Jantz of Montezuma, Gage Lowe and Alexis Lowe both of Frisco, Texas; two great grandchildren, Jonalee and Austin Zweygardt both of Montezuma; two sisters, Jane Schmidt of Syracuse and Alvina Schmidt and husband Harry of Jacksonville, Oregon; and one brother, Walter Jantz of Syracuse. In addition to his wife, Phyllis, he is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Henry, Ervin, Bill, and Alvin; and three sisters, Ella Mae Koehn, Mabel Jantz, and Goldie Jantz.

Funeral service will be held at Montezuma United Methodist Church in Montezuma on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Jerry Odle presiding. Burial will follow at Evans Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will be at Montezuma United Methodist Church on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 from noon to 8:00 PM.
