John then served his country for three years (1958 - 1960) as a member of the United States Army. On October 27, 1962, he was married to Judith A. Cavanaugh at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. The couple was blessed with three children and seven grandchildren.
John worked as a journeyman sheet metal worker with Sheet Metal Local #18 for many years, having worked with various companies including Reedsville Sheet Metal, Crafts Sheet Metal of Manitowoc and Aldag/Honald Mechanical of Sheboygan.
