Charles B. Eddy served his community as a civic and business leader for nearly three decades. One of four children born to the marriage of Reuben Eddy and Hannah Sigsworth in Lorain County, Ohio, Charles grew up on the family farm and attended Oberlin College. On 3 July 1858, Charles married Sarah B. Reynolds, daughter of Silas and Wealthy Hall Reynolds, also of Lorain County, Ohio. The young couple lived for a time in Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa along with Charles' cousin, Reuben Eddy and wife, Fanny Reynolds.
By 1870, Charles and Sarah had relocated from Iowa to a farm at Fairfield, Shiawassee County, Michigan. In 1878, they moved again to Elsie in Clinton County, where Charles Eddy ran a successful jewelry business. Valued for his organizational skills and business integrity, he also served as township treasurer, supervisor and clerk at Fairfield; township and village clerk at Elsie; and deputy surveyor and county surveyor for a decade.
Only child of this couple was: Ida, 1868-1940. She married Frank W. Clement, 1860-1936. They were also buried in lot 384/2 in Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Clinton County, Michigan.
