Father of Esther Butler, woman missionary from Ohio to Nanking. A Quaker. Born in Goshen, Ohio. Prosecuted for not serving in Civil War; later won release from prison, as most Quakers were so released on the orders of President Lincoln and Secretary of War Stanton.
