Indian Campaign Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Germany, his true name was William Schaffer. He served as a Private in the Union Army in Company B, 8th US Calvary. Shaffer was awarded the CMOH for action between August 13 and October 31, 1868 in the vicinity of the Black Mountains, Arizona Territory. His citation reads "Bravery in scouts and actions against Indians".
