E.E. 'Gene' Young, 84, died July 27, 2006 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born December 15, 1921 in Louisburg, KS. He graduated from Omaha High School, where he was a state champion in wrestling. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. His only employment was with SOHIO, having worked there for 35 years, retiring as Vice President in charge of Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas region. Gene was a loving husband and father to his wife and stepsons and stepdaughter. He was a very successful businessman in the Oil and Gas Industry, rising to a top executive position with SOHIO. Many friends knew him as a loyal, caring person. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, and loved to travel all over the world with his wife. He was a member in long standing with Quail Creek Golf and Country Club and played many hours of gin with his friends in the card room. He was a member of the Oklahoma City Petroleum Club and served on the Swing for Sight Board. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Fern Gore, a sister, Kate Hensen and a stepdaughter, Lori Devine. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Young; stepsons, Chris Devine and Mark Devine; brother-in-law, Bill Sanford and wife Paula; granddaughter, Michaela Johnson; several cousins and nieces. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Catholic Charities. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8005 Dorset Drive. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. SMITH & KERNKE 14624 N.
