Eliakim Sheldon, son of Remembrance and Mehitable(Burke)Sheldon, served for a short time as a Sgt. during the Revolution under Captain Sam'l Clark in Colonel Simon's Regiment of the Berkshire County (MA) Militia.
His name is listed on the Springfield, NY Township's Revolutionary War Memorial.

He married Sarah White, daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth(Perry) White in 1775 in MA. (Some sources claim their marriage was in 1768.)
Eliakim and Sarah were parents to nine known children.

They came to Otsego County about 1788 (a daughter was born in Springfield, NY in that year)and were said to have lived on the old Continental Road near the hamlet of East Springfield just north of the old log schoolhouse. According to Kate Gray's 'History of Springfield', "this farm in later years was called the Mark's Farm and still later was owned by Charles Dorn...both (Eliakim and Sarah) died in Springfield and are buried on their farm. His grave has a Revolutionary Marker"

Eliakim was an active religious leader in East Springfield where he was ordained as an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church.

He died in 1824 and was buried, according to 1916 Congressional DAR records, in Gray's Farm Cemetery in East Springfield. The NY Genealogical and Biographical Society refer to the Cemetery as the Dorn Farm Cemetery and offer the transcription shown here.
