Enoch was the youngest son of Jesse & Margaret (Gibson) Sawyer. Enoch was 1 of 4 sons, (Jacob, Mark & Jordan).

He married Elizabeth Broaddus on 29 Jan 1839 in Putnam Co, IL. The couple had 11 chidren,
Lunsford, Jesse, Lemuel, Simeon, Nancy, Samuel, Enoch, Jordan, Lucy, Mark & Christopher.

In 1835 Enoch was operating the first saw mill on Sandy Creek in Hopewell twp, Marshall Co, IL. At that time he owned 80 acres of land.

In the 1870s Enoch was elected many times as justice of the township. His main occupation was that of a farmer.

By 1860 Enoch's land holding had increased t0 540 acres
