--With the death of Lucy Bearss, 96, Peru lost the last survivor of her generation of a prominent local family.
--Her death came as arrangements were being made to raze the Peru Motor Lodge, formerly the Bearss Hotel, originally built by her grandfather, Daniel Bearss.
--Miss Bearss was born Dec. 27, 1882, to Frank W. and Desdemona Eddings Bearss. Death occurred Friday, Sept. 28, 1979.
--The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Wylie officiating and burial following in Bearss Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
--Miss Bearss is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
--Miss Bearss was the last member of her family to reside in the Bearss mansion on North Broadway that was turn down in 1968 to make way for the new Peru High School.
--Before the house was torn down, Miss Bearss found it too large for her alone, and in 1958 built a smaller house adjacent to it on the property.
